Sorting contacts by Name, Phone Number, Last Call, and more
When viewing your contacts in the contact manager, there are many options for sorting your contacts. These can be accessed from the upper right of your screen, beneath your initials or avatar.
PhoneBurner users can sort the lists of contacts which are displayed when viewing contacts within Folders or Search results.
You may wish to change the sort of the contacts when viewing a list: by contact Name, Phone Number, Date Added, Last Call, etc.
This can result in increased productivity by allowing you to identify and control which set of contacts you select when beginning a dial session.
- Click the dropdown arrow to the right of the current Sort Label, then select an option from the Contacts, Address, or Custom Fields sections.
Common patterns include sorting by Name, Last Call (to find contacts you have not called recently), or by Zip (to target contacts in certain areas).
- Contacts: Name, Phone Number, Email Address, Local Time, Folder, Date Added, Date Updated, Last Call, Dial Session Status, etc.
- Address: Address, City, State, Zip, etc.
- Custom Fields: Company Name, Title, etc.
- Once you have chosen the primary sort, you may then toggle the list of contacts in Ascending or Descending order by clicking on the Sort Label:
- Ascending: or
(alphabetical, numerical, or chronological order) - Descending: or
(reverse alphabetical/numerical/chronological order) - You can sort individual folders however you would like, and PhoneBurner will remember that sort the next time you visit each folder.

In addition to the sorting capabilities, users may also create and edit Layouts. A Layout determines which specific fields are displayed in the Contact Manager. If you don’t see a particular Custom Field when viewing your lists, for example, you can edit the Layout being used for that particular view to add or remove desired fields.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find contacts I haven't called recently?
You can sort by Last Call, this will change the order based on when they were called using PhoneBurner. Sorting in ascending order (1 over 9), will bring those contacts who have never been called, or it has been the longest since you called them, to the current view. Sorting in descending order (9 over 1) will bring the most recently called contacts into the current view.
If you sort by Total Calls or Total Call Attempts, the order will be based on the number of times the contact has been called, rather than when they were called.Total Calls is the number of times a contact has been dialed on all of their phone numbers. Total Call Attempts is the number of times the contact has been included in an individual dial session.
How do I see more contacts per page?
You may select how many contacts are viewed on each page from the upper right of your page. The default is Show 100.
Can I change which folder I see first when viewing the Contact Manager page?

How do I sort my contacts by tags?
While the option to sort contact by tags is not offered at this time, the Advanced Search option will allow contacts with tags to be filtered in/out of the search results.
How do I change the primary phone number for a contact with multiple numbers?
The primary phone number is designated upon importing your contact list. On your spreadsheet, the first phone number column will be considered the primary number.
Example: If you would prefer to call the contact's work phone first, rearrange the phone number columns on your spreadsheet so that the work phone column appears before the other phone number columns.
If you have already imported your list into your PhoneBurner account, you can delete the list, modify the spreadsheet, then re import your list.
How do I duplicate a contact?
Add the ability to clone individual contacts quickly. This feature adds a new button to the More drop-down of the contact details screen in your contact manager enabling you to quickly make a copy of a contact and all its details.
- Go to Your Initials>>My Account>>Labs (https://www.phoneburner.com/settings/labs/index)
- Turn on Contact Cloning
How can I make my Contacts Manager load faster?
If you have a Contacts page that is loading slow, here are a few tips that may help you to speed up the system.
- Pick a Default Folder other than New contacts.
- To do this, Go to Contacts, click the Gear icon next to Folders and select Set Default Folder and choose the folder you want to load first each time. This will make whatever you choose the first set of contacts that loads automatically when you open the Contacts page.
- Choose a reasonable number of contacts to Show at one time. The default is Show 100.
- Keep your Contact Manager layouts simple. The more data we have to tabulate into those views the slower it is.
- On folders where you have large amounts of data, consider not using custom layouts at all.
- Unless necessary don’t show tags on the Contact Manager grid.
