✅ Summary:
This training video focuses on how to use the Custom Fields section of PhoneBurner’s Advanced Search to filter and locate contacts based on values stored in your custom fields. You can easily search for contacts to re-engage in a dial session or export them for other use.
There are five types of custom fields you can search within:
- Date Fields – Filter by specific dates or ranges (e.g., renewal dates).
- Text Fields – Use keyword or wildcard (*) searches.
- Checkbox Fields – Search based on Yes/No (e.g., past due, do not text).
- Dropdown Fields – Select specific values from a preset list.
- Numeric Fields – Search for contacts within numerical ranges (e.g., home values).
Important Notes:
- Custom fields are unique to each PhoneBurner user.
- Only fields you've created in your account will appear in your custom field search.
- Wildcards are especially useful when searching text fields.

📝 Cleaned-Up Transcript:
I have a bunch of information stored in custom fields within each of my contact records in PhoneBurner, and I need to be able to search for contacts based on the values in those custom fields. That way, I can find the right people to either reach out to in another dial session or export those contacts.
Don’t worry—PhoneBurner’s got your back, and that’s exactly what we’re going to cover in this training. This video is part of the Advanced Search Training Module, and in this specific training, we’re focused on the Custom Fields section of Advanced Search.
Let’s go ahead and expand that section.
Now, keep in mind—everything you’re seeing in the Custom Fields section right now is from my PhoneBurner account. Custom fields are unique to every user. So, if you don’t see something like a field called Renewal Date, that’s perfectly normal. It just means you haven’t created that custom field in your account.
The fields you have—or don’t have—are entirely up to you.
That said, here are the types of custom fields available:
🔹 Date Fields
These allow you to filter contacts based on a date you’ve stored. You can search for:
- A specific date
- Before or after a date
- A range (e.g., “Renewal Date between June 1st and June 30th”)
- X days ago, or within the past X days
🔹 Text Fields
These are free-text fields. You can type anything in, which means searching them requires wildcards.
Use *
(asterisks) before, after, or around your search term to find:
- Any value that starts with, ends with, or contains your keyword.
🔹 Checkbox Fields
Simple yes/no fields. These are used for things like:
- “Past Due” → Checked or not
- “Do Not Text” → Checked or not
🔹 Dropdown Fields
These allow you to pick from a list of preset options. You can search for contacts who have a specific value selected in that dropdown.
🔹 Numeric Fields
Perfect for numeric values—like “Home Value.” You can search for:
- Equal to
- Greater than
- Less than
- Between two values
- Not equal to
This is ideal for creating segmented lists based on ranges—especially useful when contact data varies widely.
So, that’s a quick overview of how to use the Custom Fields section in PhoneBurner’s Advanced Search. Again, the fields in your account will differ, but the search functionality works the same for everyone.
Thanks for taking a moment to watch this video, and happy dialing!
