One of the most important things to understand in PhoneBurner is how to import your contacts. Because if your data isn’t in PhoneBurner—who are you going to call? (Certainly not Ghostbusters, right?)
In this video, I’ll give you a quick overview of how to import contacts into PhoneBurner.
Step 1: Start Your Import
Once you're logged into your PhoneBurner account, go to the Contact Manager and click the Import button in the upper-left corner.
You can either drag a file from your computer or click “Browse Your Files” to find the one you want to import.
Step 2: Map Your Data
After selecting your file, you'll move to step two: mapping your data. This is where you match the columns from your file to the fields in PhoneBurner.
Often, PhoneBurner will automatically map fields correctly (e.g., “Character First” becomes “First Name”). You can preview the data for each field and make adjustments as needed.
If there’s data you don’t want to import, just mark that field as “Do Not Import.”
Need a field that doesn’t exist? No problem—you can create a custom field on the fly and choose its type:
-
Text
-
Checkbox
-
Date ...whatever fits your data.
Step 3: Organize Your Contacts
Next, choose how to organize your data:
-
Pick a folder (either existing or create a new one)
-
Optionally tag contacts or associate them with a saved search
-
Set a Lead Source—this is strongly recommended so you can track contact effectiveness
You’ll also see options to:
-
Scrub for duplicates (by email or phone number)
-
Skip duplicates or update existing records
-
-
Scrub against your PhoneBurner DNC list
Step 4: Preview & Import
Click Next to preview your import (excluding custom fields), then confirm by clicking “Yes, Please Import.”
PhoneBurner will begin processing your file. Once done, you’ll see a confirmation message (e.g., “88 new contacts created”) and can click View Imported Contacts to see your new list in the Contact Manager.
That’s your quick overview of how to import contacts into PhoneBurner.
Now it’s your turn—take a moment to import your first file, then mark this step as complete and move on to the next one. Happy dialing!
