SMS Registration & $50 Application Fee – What You Need to Know

At PhoneBurner, we’re excited to offer SMS as a powerful, flexible way to connect with your contacts. Before you can start texting, there’s one important step: completing the registration process required by the major U.S. mobile carriers (AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile).

This process—known as A2P 10DLC registration—is designed to protect consumers from spam and ensure that business texting is used responsibly. While it may sound complex, our Trust & Safety team is here to guide you every step of the way.

As part of this process, there is a one-time, nonrefundable $50 application fee. 

Here’s what you need to know.

Why is there a $50 fee?

The $50 fee helps cover the actual costs involved in registering your business for SMS. A significant portion of this fee goes directly to industry-mandated registration expenses.

This fee also supports the hands-on work we do to guide you through the process, including:

• Reviewing your website and forms for compliance
• Advising on required updates to meet carrier standards
• Helping revise and resubmit your registration if issues arise
• Acting as your advocate with the carriers throughout the process
   

We aim to make SMS registration as simple, stress-free, and successful as possible.
 

What does the fee NOT guarantee?

• Approval is not guaranteed. Final decisions are made by the carriers, not PhoneBurner.
   
• Approval timeline is not guaranteed. While we work efficiently, carrier timelines vary.
   
• Fees are nonrefundable, even if your application is declined.
   
• Future applications will require new fees. If you discontinue using PhoneBurner, but return and wish to apply for texting, another $50 payment will be necessary.
   

Who should apply?

You should only apply if you meet all of the following:

• You have a valid EIN (Employer Identification Number).
   
• You have a website you control and can make updates to (Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Contact Form).
   
• You have written consent from the contacts you plan to text.
   
• Your use case aligns with carrier guidelines (e.g., no gambling, illegal substances, etc.).
