Summary:
This video tutorial covers how to configure and use the SMS Opt-Out web hook in PhoneBurner. The SMS Opt-Out web hook allows you to be notified in real-time whenever a contact replies with "STOP" to unsubscribe from receiving text messages. Using Zapier as the integration tool, the video demonstrates setting up a "Catch Hook" trigger, applying the web hook URL in PhoneBurner settings, and logging opt-out data (such as contact name, phone number, email, contact ID, and opt-out date) into a Google Sheet. The system even handles multiple contact records sharing the same phone number, ensuring full opt-out coverage across records. This feature is useful for syncing opt-out status across external CRMs and messaging platforms.

Cleaned-up Transcript:
Hello there! Thank you for taking a moment to watch this video. In this training, we're going to continue exploring web hook integration options in PhoneBurner—specifically the SMS Opt-Out web hook.
This feature allows you to define a web hook URL that will be triggered whenever someone opts out of receiving text messages from you. I’ll be using Zapier for this demonstration, but you can use any system that supports web hooks.
Step 1: Create the Web Hook in Zapier
- Create a new Zap and name it SMS Opt Out.
- Choose Webhooks by Zapier as the trigger.
- Select Catch Hook and click Continue.
- Copy the custom web hook URL Zapier provides.
Step 2: Configure in PhoneBurner
- Go to Settings > Integrations > Web Hooks in PhoneBurner.
- Paste the Zapier web hook URL into the SMS Opt Out field and save.
Step 3: Simulate an Opt-Out
Let’s test the workflow by having a contact opt out via SMS.
- Open a dial session with a contact (e.g., Patty Closer).
- In the SMS tab, send a text message.
- The contact replies with “STOP.” PhoneBurner automatically unsubscribes the contact and sends confirmation.
Now that the opt-out has occurred, Zapier should receive the data.
Step 4: Process in Google Sheets
Back in Zapier:
- Click Test Trigger to confirm the webhook data came through.
- Choose Google Sheets as the action.
- Select Create Spreadsheet Row.
- Before continuing, create a new worksheet in your Google Sheet titled SMS Opt Out with headers:
- Contact Name
- Phone Number
- Email Address
- Contact ID
- Opt-Out Date
- In Zapier, map:
- Contact Name using first and last name fields.
- Phone Numbers (including multiple, if needed).
- Primary Email Address.
- Contact ID (User ID).
- Opt-Out Date using Zapier’s timestamp feature.
- Test the action to confirm the data logs in your sheet.
- Turn on (publish) the Zap.
Step 5: Retest the Workflow
To confirm the full flow works:
- Have the contact send “START” to resubscribe.
- Then send “STOP” again.
- Zapier will detect the opt-out and log it in the Google Sheet.
Note: If multiple contacts share the same phone number, the system may log each of them, ensuring all related records are updated accordingly.
And that’s how you can use the SMS Opt-Out web hook in PhoneBurner. This is perfect for syncing opt-out preferences across systems and ensuring compliance.
Thanks again, and happy dialing!
