Summary:
This video explains how PhoneBurner users integrated with Zoho CRM can improve the appearance of custom fields during dial sessions. PhoneBurner automatically pulls Zoho custom fields using API names, which can result in unattractive formatting. To resolve this, users can manually create custom field mappings in the PhoneBurner Zoho integration settings, allowing them to rename fields for better readability while maintaining the correct mapping to Zoho fields. The video demonstrates step-by-step how to access and configure these mappings, including retrieving API names from Zoho to avoid duplications or errors. This customization enhances the dial session experience and maintains data integrity between systems.

Cleaned-up Transcript:
For those of you using the PhoneBurner power dialer through Zoho CRM, you've probably noticed that each time you start a dial session, without needing to do any extra setup, PhoneBurner automatically creates custom fields on the PhoneBurner side. We're pulling data from Zoho and displaying it directly in your PhoneBurner dial session window. So not only can you power through calls at a rate of 60 to 80 dials per hour, but we also bring over a wealth of information to help you be more informed when someone answers.
However, you may have noticed that sometimes the fields don’t format well. For example, a field might display as “custom date on con—what?” This is a side effect of making it easy to get started with dial sessions. PhoneBurner creates these fields using the API names from Zoho, which aren’t always clean or user-friendly.
Each field in Zoho has an API name, allowing us to pull and update that information. If you make changes to one of these fields during a dial session, it will sync back to Zoho once you disposition and move on to your next call. The mapping works because PhoneBurner stores the Zoho API name as the field name.
But there's a better way. If you'd like to clean up how the dial session window looks, you can create a custom field mapping. Let me show you how easy it is.
First, log into your PhoneBurner account. Click your initials in the upper right, then go to "Integrations" under Settings. From there, click on the Zoho integration. On the Zoho integration page, scroll to the "Custom Field Mapping Override" section—this is where you can create mappings between Zoho and PhoneBurner fields.
You’ll see a list of all the fields on the PhoneBurner side, which might be a lot. Don't worry—there are ways to exclude some fields (covered in another video). Now, back to our example: the “custom date on contact” field. You’ll see a button labeled “Map” next to it. By default, everything is in a 1:1 mapping format, meaning the field names match exactly (underscores included).
If you click “Map,” it allows you to customize how the field name appears in PhoneBurner. After mapping, we’re telling the PhoneBurner-Zoho integration that we want this Zoho field tied to this cleaned-up field name in PhoneBurner.
Next, go to Settings > Contacts > Custom Fields. Find “custom date on contacts,” click “Edit,” and change the name to something more readable (e.g., remove the underscores). Save your changes.
Back on the Zoho integration page, you'll see that the mapping is still intact. We’re still syncing with the correct field in Zoho, but now it looks much better in the PhoneBurner dialer.
What if you change a field name in PhoneBurner before creating the mapping? That’s okay. Just go to the Zoho integration settings, find the correct field (e.g., “lead status”), and make sure the API name from Zoho matches on the left-hand side.
If you're unsure of the API name, you can find it in Zoho. Click “Setup,” then go to “APIs and SDKs,” and click “API Names.” Select the module (like Contacts), and you’ll see a list of all fields and their API names.
If you start a dial session before completing the mapping, you might accidentally duplicate fields—but that’s easy to clean up.
As you can see, it's simple to create field mappings in PhoneBurner to clean up field names, making your dial sessions more efficient and visually clear.
Now that we’ve made our changes, let's end the dial session and start a new one. Select your contacts and begin your PhoneBurner session. You’ll now see the updated field names like “lead status” displayed cleanly.
That’s a quick overview of how to rename custom fields in PhoneBurner when dialing from Zoho. Thanks for watching. I hope this helps your organization get more done in less time using the power of PhoneBurner. Happy dialing!
