Summary
If you are running PhoneBurner for Salesforce version 4.18 or earlier, you must install patch 4.18.1 before upgrading to the current release. Attempting to upgrade directly will fail.
This is a one-time requirement. After installing 4.18.1, all future upgrades can be installed normally.
Who this applies to
Check your installed version first:
- In Salesforce, go to Setup
- In the Quick Find box, type Installed Packages
- Locate PhoneBurner in the list
- Look at the Version Number column
| Your version | Action required |
|---|---|
| 4.18 or earlier | Install patch 4.18.1 first (instructions below), then upgrade |
| 4.18.1 | You can upgrade directly to the latest version |
| 4.19 or later | No patch needed — upgrade directly to the latest version |
Why the patch is required
An earlier PhoneBurner release attempted to remove the legacy Update Configuration tab and page — this had been replaced by a newer unified configuration experience. Salesforce doesn't allow managed package components to be removed once they've been shipped to customers, so this attempted removal blocked the upgrade path for orgs running the affected versions.
Patch 4.18.1 restores the removed components, which unblocks the upgrade. The Update Configuration tab and page are no longer used by current PhoneBurner functionality (the Create Configuration tab now handles both create and update workflows in a unified interface) — they remain in your org after the patch but can be safely ignored.
Patches are different from regular package upgrades — they exist specifically to fix issues like this one without requiring a full version bump.
How to install patch 4.18.1
Step 1: Click the install link
Production orgs: Install 4.18.1 in Production
Sandbox orgs: Install 4.18.1 in Sandbox
Step 2: Log in as a System Administrator
You must be logged in with full admin privileges to install a managed package patch.
Step 3: Choose the install scope
We recommend selecting Install for All Users. This matches how the main PhoneBurner package was originally installed and ensures consistent access for your team.
Step 4: Approve any third-party access prompts
Click Continue through any prompts. The patch should install within a minute.
Step 5: Verify the patch installed
- Return to Setup → Installed Packages
- Your PhoneBurner version should now read 4.18.1
After installing the patch
You can now upgrade to the latest version of PhoneBurner for Salesforce through the normal upgrade path (AppExchange or the install link your PhoneBurner contact provided).
No further action is required for future upgrades — only the one-time patch is needed.
Troubleshooting
The install link gives a "package not found" or similar error. Confirm you're logged in as a System Administrator in the correct org before clicking the link. If you have multiple Salesforce orgs, the link uses whichever org your browser session is currently authenticated to.
The install link sends me to a Sandbox login but I'm trying to install in Production (or vice versa). Make sure the URL starts with the right environment:
-
https://login.salesforce.com/...for Production -
https://test.salesforce.com/...for Sandbox
Installed Packages still shows version 4.18 after I installed the patch. Refresh the Installed Packages page. If the version still hasn't updated, the install may have failed silently — check Setup → Apex Jobs for any failed deploys, then re-run the install link.
I'm on version 4.19 or later and the AppExchange tells me I need to install 4.18.1. You don't — that message is incorrect for your version. Reach out to PhoneBurner Support and we'll help you upgrade directly.
