Federal law (CAN-SPAM Act) requires every commercial email to include a valid physical mailing address. This address will appear in the footer of every email you send through PhoneBurner. It can be your street address, a registered P.O. Box, or a private mailbox (PMB) registered with a commercial mail receiving agency. Please make sure the address you enter is current and accurate.
Why do I need to include a physical address?
The CAN-SPAM Act is a federal law that sets rules for commercial email. One of its requirements is that every marketing or sales email must include the sender's valid physical postal address. This helps recipients know who is contacting them and gives them a way to reach the sender outside of email.
What counts as a valid address?
- Your company's street address
- A P.O. Box registered with the U.S. Postal Service
- A private mailbox (PMB) registered through a commercial mail receiving agency (like a UPS Store mailbox)
What if I work from home? If you'd rather not use your home address, a P.O. Box or PMB is a great alternative. Just make sure it's registered and current.
What happens if I don't include one? Emails sent without a valid physical address violate federal law. This can result in penalties and may also hurt your email deliverability, since email providers flag non-compliant messages as spam.
