Summary
This video provides an overview of Number Pools in PhoneBurner, explaining how they help manage Caller IDs for outbound dialing. Key points include:
-
What Are Number Pools?
- Number pools are groups of phone numbers purchased through PhoneBurner.
- They allow you to control which Caller ID is displayed during outbound calls.
-
Accessing Number Pools:
- Click your initials in the upper-right corner.
- Go to Numbers under Settings to access your Numbers Inventory page.
-
Purpose of Number Pools:
- Number pools help manage Caller IDs across different campaigns.
- For example, you might create a specific number pool for a Winback Campaign to use designated phone numbers when contacting past customers.
- Number pools can be assigned to folders, saved searches, or Lead Streams to control the Caller ID displayed during outbound calls.
-
Caller ID Control:
- During a dial session, users can select a specific number pool or individual registered Caller IDs from the dropdown menu.
- This flexibility ensures the appropriate Caller ID is displayed based on your calling strategy.
-
Inbound Call Routing:
- Each number pool has its own Inbound Routing Strategy to determine how callbacks are managed.
- Details on routing strategies are covered in another training session.
Number Pools provide greater control over your outbound calling strategy, improving call consistency and ensuring the right numbers are used for the right campaigns.

Cleaned-Up Transcript
Whenever you make an outbound call using PhoneBurner, the system must display a Caller ID. This can be:
- A number you’ve brought into PhoneBurner.
- A number you’ve purchased directly through PhoneBurner.
In this training, I want to give you an overview of a powerful feature called Number Pools.
Accessing Number Pools
To view your number pools:
- Click your initials in the upper-right corner.
- Select Numbers under Settings.
On the Numbers Inventory page, you’ll see only the phone numbers you’ve purchased through PhoneBurner — not external numbers you've added to your Caller ID library.
What Are Number Pools?
Number pools allow you to group purchased numbers into organized sets. For example, you may have:
- A Closer Pool with two numbers.
- An Inbound Team pool with one number.
- A Winback Campaign pool with a specific set of numbers for re-engaging past customers.
Some number pools may include an SMS tag, meaning they’re assigned to specific team members for text-enabled communications.
Why Use Number Pools?
Number pools give you control over which Caller ID is used based on your dialing strategy. For example:
- You may assign a Winback Campaign number pool for reconnecting with past customers.
- You can assign different number pools to folders, saved searches, or Lead Streams to ensure the appropriate Caller ID is displayed when contacting specific groups of contacts.
Selecting a Number Pool in a Dial Session
When launching a dial session:
- The Caller ID dropdown will display all available number pools, as well as any personal Caller IDs you’ve registered.
- Selecting the appropriate pool ensures the correct phone number is displayed to your contacts.
Inbound Call Routing
Each number pool has its own Inbound Routing Strategy, determining how callbacks are handled — whether directed to specific agents, groups, or external numbers.
Number Pools are a powerful tool that gives you more control over your outbound Caller IDs and ensures callbacks are routed appropriately.
Thanks for watching this overview of Number Pools — and happy dialing!
