Understanding Call Routing
vPhone allows the call to be routed in 3 ways:
- Forward to an existing phone number
- To a voicemail
- Ring in your current dial session
The first will ring to the number you set in the vPhone settings. If the call is not answered, it will go back to the voicemail set up and enabled in vPhone.
When routing or forwarding to an existing number, vPhone and voicemail is enabled in the settings, it will ask the answerer to 'accept' the call. This cannot be disabled, as it ensures that the call is not routed to an external voicemail.
When routing to voicemail is enabled, vPhone only routes there after the other routes have not answered the call (our time out just a little less than 30 seconds, designed to time out before a normal phone will answer with voicemail).
Using Numbers (Number pools) and vPhone together:
Number packages are available as stand alone purchases on all accounts. If you have a standard or professional level account, account and only have numbers added on, you only need to do the set up on your local id as defined here.
If you are on a Premium package that includes vPhone, there are some important factors to take into account in how these services interact together.
DO NOT PUT THE vPHONE NUMBER HERE.
Putting your vPhone in as the forwarding number will cause an infinite loop of calls ringing with no one there and calls you cannot answer. The system should not allow a vPhone number to be added here.
vPhone Voicemail
If you want to have the system answer your calls for you when you are not available, you can record a voicemail here or let it play a default one. When enabled, messages left here will show on your messages tab.
Dial sessions
When you start a dial session, you can choose what caller id to use.
vPhone: You have a phone number you have purchased and can choose to use this for outbound caller id during your dial sessions by choosing the pool it is assigned too. Setting the option to use vPhone for dial sessions will use this number for outbound calls.
vPhone with Numbers service: If you have numbers purchased from Phoneburner as well as a vPhone, and do not have number pools enabled, you can choose the option for vPhone/Local id and you will basically use the Vphone as one of the random numbers used to dial. If you have number pools, just select the pool you want. If geo-matching has been enabled for you, then you will want to use the pool that has the numbers purchased.
When setting up the Numbers settings in your, it is important to either add an outside line you would like each call back to a number forwarded too, or leave it blank if you want it to route to the vPhone line.
Again:
DO NOT PUT THE vPHONE NUMBER HERE.

The main Callback Number is used if no other numbers are available for a call to be routed to. For example, if a contact calls you back from a phone that is not in your system after receiving a call that had a purchased number used when calling them.
The individual callback numbers for your team are where callbacks to their purchased numbers will be routed. If you want these to go to the vPhone line, leave it blank, if you want it to go to a different line, enter their personal number that is NOT VPHONE!
